National Wholesale Liquidators Subscription Campaign

Objective:

National Wholesale Liquidators wanted to grow their mobile database and drive traffic into their 12 stores.

Campaign:

  • To do this, National Wholesale Liquidators advertised their new mobile marketing campaign in-store, online, and in their print advertising.

  • National Wholesale Liquidators offered $5 off any purchase over $25 when a customer joined their mobile club.

Call to Action:
  • “Text NWL to 77000 to join our mobile club and get 20% off a purchase of $25 or more at National Wholesale Liquidators.”

  • Bounceback to listeners that texted NWL: “Thanks 4 subscribing to SmartMoney. Up to 4 msgs/wk. Reply HELP 4 help, STOP to cancel. MsgDtaRtesMayAply”

  • Push message to NWL mobile club members: “20% off any one regularly priced item w/ $25 purchase. Excludes liquor and TV’s @ NWL. Offer PIN:123456 (see offers on mobile app) MsgDtaRtesMayAply”

Results:
  • Retailer was able to build a mobile subscriber database of 50,000 customers.

  • Customers with the text message promotion spent 80% more at National Wholesale Liquidators than customers that didn’t receive the promotion.

  • More specifically, customers that received the text message offer spent on average $45 at this retailer, while customers that didn’t receive the text message offer only spent $25.
